You'll don a mask and snorkel, then cruise the shallow grass flats, spotting and scooping up these tasty bivalves. It's a blast and makes for some great underwater photos too. When it's time to fish, we'll switch gears to light tackle inshore fishing. Captain Heath knows all the honey holes where redfish and snook like to hang out. He'll show you the ropes on how to work a soft plastic or maybe even sight cast to tailing reds in the shallows. Whether you're jigging, popping corks, or free-lining live bait, you're in for some rod-bending action.

Redfish: These copper-colored bruisers are the bread and butter of Crystal River fishing. Reds can range from little "rats" to big bull reds over 30 inches. They love to cruise the flats and mangrove shorelines, often giving themselves away with their trademark tailing behavior. Sight-casting to a tailing red is one of the most exciting things you can do with a fishing rod. They put up a great fight and make for some mighty fine eating too.
Snook: The elusive linesider is a favorite among local anglers. These ambush predators love to hang around structure like docks, mangrove roots, and oyster bars. Snook are known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps once hooked. They can be finicky, but when they're on, the action is non-stop. Crystal River has a healthy population of snook, with fish ranging from little guys up to trophy-sized monsters over 40 inches.
Bay Scallops: While not a fish, these little gems are the stars of the show during scallop season (typically July through September). Crystal River is known as the "Scallop Capital of Florida" for good reason. These tasty bivalves are abundant in the shallow grass flats, making for a fun and rewarding underwater treasure hunt. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of bringing home a bag full of scallops you harvested yourself.
So, there you have it, folks – a day on the water that combines the best of what Crystal River has to offer. Whether you're all about filling the cooler with scallops, itching to tangle with some hard-fighting inshore species, or just want to soak up the Florida sun, Captain Heath's got you covered. With everything provided and a flexible itinerary, all you need to bring is your sense of adventure (and maybe a cold drink or two). Don't let this opportunity slip through your fingers like a wet fish – book your trip with Red Fin Addict Inshore Charters today and get ready for some reel fun on the Nature Coast!

Snook are one of the coolest fish we target around here. They usually run 1-2 feet long but can get up to 4 feet in the right spots. You'll find 'em hanging around mangroves, docks, and other structures in the shallow coastal waters and estuaries. They love warm water, so spring through fall is prime time. These fish put up an awesome fight - they've got a powerful tail that lets them make sudden bursts of speed. Anglers love 'em for the challenge and their tasty white meat. Just watch out for that lateral line when you're handling them. If you're looking to hook into a snook, try fishing around dawn or dusk with live bait like pinfish or mullet. Or throw some soft plastic swimbaits that mimic their natural prey. My go-to trick is using a popping cork to make some noise and draw them out of cover. Just be patient and ready for that explosive strike when it comes!
Redfish are a blast to catch in the Crystal River area. They typically run 20-30 inches long, with that distinctive spot near the tail. You'll find 'em in shallow water, often so shallow their backs are out of the water! They love hanging around oyster beds, grass flats, and muddy bottoms in 1-4 feet of water. Fall is prime time for redfish here, but you can catch 'em year-round. Anglers love targeting these fish for their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. When they're on, the action can be non-stop. To land a nice red, try sight-fishing with light tackle in the shallows. Look for their copper-colored backs or tails sticking up as they feed. A gold spoon or soft plastic shrimp imitation works great. My local tip? Fish the edges of grass flats on a falling tide - the reds will be there ambushing bait as it gets pulled off the flat.
